Our honey show this year was very well supported both by BADS
Members and the public. Twenty members between them entered an amazing 117
exhibits! As well as Honey Classes there were a number of fascinating
photographs and interesting home-made equipment and instructive exhibits. A
number of members had worked hard producing some beautiful beeswax cakes,
blocks and candles. And of course there were many delicious looking cakes
for the Judges to taste. A sincere thankyou to all our Entrants, without
you there would not have been a Honey Show. A full list of the results and
Award Winners is attached to this email.
At 2.00pm members of the public streamed in, eager to find out about bees
and honey. Kelly and Rachel were kept busy answering questions and giving
out leaflets on our Wanabee Day next April. Gerda looked after the
Roll-a-Candle and artistically displayed the knitted bees in a most
ingenious way. She raised £53.75 from the combined sales. Well done Gerda!
Graham kept people guessing, looking for the Queen in the Virtual Hive.
Alla, David and Elizabeth worked hard on the Sales Table where they were
inundated with requests for honey. They sold out in the first half hour!
Jean, Alan, Deb and ”Queen of Cakes” Alison did a wonderful job looking
after the catering and honey tasting. They raised £50.00! Didn’t they do
well? Felicity and Steve were a great “Meet and Greet” team, pulling in
any waifs and strays from the car park and Lesley was a truly amazing
“B-Class” Steward, making sure everyone voted. Fred was Judges Steward in
the morning and I believe enjoyed learning so much. We are of course so
lucky to have our two wonderful Judges Mike and Margaret who stayed on into
the afternoon to help with answering questions.
Other members, Kent, Peter, Anne, Ian, Conor and others who helped in many
ways – our Security Team, setting up the show, making scones, knitting bees,
clearing away and those who gave support by visiting on the day. Thank you
very much one and all for making our Honey Show 2017 a terrific success.
Let’s do it all again next year, please.
